Welcome to the Edition I main page! Edition I is the beginning of FFCCG, as Final Fantasy was the beginning of the series. This edition features all the characters and places that you remember from so long ago.
Most of the material for Edition I is drawn from the American release on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Some alternate material is taken from the Playstation remake, Final Fantasy Origins, as well as the Gameboy Advance remake, Dawn of Souls.

The Heroes are the powerful warriors who fought together against evil. Heroes have above average stats, and can progress over the course of a match using different Level cards. Heroes are currently the only Combat cards that can use Equipment.
Bosses are the big battles the heroes had to overcome to progress. Bosses have high stats, but a player can only have one Boss in his or her Combat Zone at a time. Bosses often have powerful special abilities or spellcasting abilities as well.
Equipment is all the weapons and armor the Heroes used in their quest. Equipment is paid for in GP rather than PP. Equipment can only be played on Heroes, and is divided into two types: Weapons and Armor.
Weapons are used to increase the attack of Heroes, and remove their unarmed penalty. Armor is equipped to Heroes to protect them from damage. In order for a Hero to use an Equipment, that Hero has to have the related skill with a high enough value.
The many events that happened on the journey of the Heroes. Events are playable at any time, and have one-time effects. The effects of Events range from simple HP recovery to complete disruption of a game.
The common and magical items found all over the world. Items are played by paying GP rather than PP, and have one-use effects. Once used, an item is discarded immediately, unless the card text says otherwise.
Locations represent all the towns, castles, caves, etc. that the game took place across. Locations are the basis of the FFCCG, as they provide Progression Points (PP) to players, which are then used to play most cards. Locations are also the only card type that don't cost anything to play. Instead, each player can only play one Location each turn. The effects of a Location are always active while it is in a location zone, even if the Location itself isn't active.
Monsters are all the beasts and creatures the Heroes had to fight while on their quest. Monsters have average stats, but they have no limits on how many you can play, unless your combat zone is full. Some monsters have special abilities that set them apart, or unique stats.
NPCs are the important characters that populated the world. NPCs are played onto combat cards, and usually provide bonuses specifically to that combat card. Some are limited to what kinds of combat cards they can be played on. Some NPCs also have abilities that affect more than just the combat card they are attached to.
Spells are the magical powers that were accessible by both friend and foe. Spells are divided into two categories: Black and White. Black spells are focused on inflicting damage and disrupting your opponent's combat cards. White spells focus on recovery and healing, as well as boosting your combat cards. Most spells have two possible effects, one of which is only seen if the spell is cast by a combat card rather than just played.
